CONCERNS
The Centre will have to grow beyond its role of the documentarian
and extend its mandate to cultural activism that would contribute
to a process of slowing down, if not stopping completely, the movement
towards de-tribalization of the traditional society in so drastic
a manner. Also, it has to reach out from the confined physical boundaries
of the state of Arunachal Pradesh to look for shared experiences
in the entire northeastern region, which faces similar discord.
This means that the interaction and reach of the Center with the
scattered tribal groups has to be much multiplied. This can happen
only by way of extended public programs and larger media initiatives
- at least more than what we have been able to bring about in these
few years of our existence.
With this set of experiences and exposures comes a new set of responsibilities.
The outcome of the What Now? workshop and the responses to our other
programs have pointed towards a more expansive role for the CCRD,
particularly in these avenues:
- As a Centre to network and build a database of organizations
in the region.
Expand documentation beyond the visual medium to also include
audio and textual documentation.
- Incorporate publication of research component and conclusions.
- Extended dissemination of the material so collected.
- Collection and cataloging of folklore material into accessible
database.
- Diversification to crafts and art.
- Capacity building of the Centre to generate more income to sustain
activities.
- Continual assessment.
