  RESPONSE

Within the last three years, the Centre for Cultural Research & Documentation has been able to achieve the following:

  • A public profile for the Centre as well as networking with other organizations with similar mandates.
  • A process of dialogue amongst the youth and school children on questions of change and adaptation.
  • A cross-region understanding amongst the culturally diverse tribes within the State.
  • Emergence as a platform for public dialogue on issues of culture, folklore and research.

“I have been thinking about the film you showed here and the matter has been churning in my head...it really left an impact on my comprehensions towards the indigenous faith and culture of our people. But is religion (the indigenous faith) really necessary to help preserve our culture?”- Harry Loyi, Arunachal University

“Does culture comprise religion or religion contains culture?” – Mr. Ashoh Tajoh, Teacher, Green Mount School

“ It is necessary to know about our culture and customs because these are what help us to gain our identity and strengthen our roots as a different but complete individual” – Ms. Tenzin Lhamo Minto, XI Sc, Kendriya Vidyalaya-II

“What have you really achieved at the end of all this...can you tell us any example, any specific instance where you feel your work has made a difference, if at all?” – Abhilash Bhattacharya, SURABHI FORCE, Mumbai, Looking at Tomorrow

A regional conference on Traditional Institutions, Transformations and Development was held at Gauhati in March 2002. CCRD provided media support, and screened “Prayers for New Gods”, a film on the changing context of religion in Arunachal and the resurgence of traditional faiths.
